WEBINAR: BEYOND LAND ACCESS
Land tenure security is not merely fundamental for rural women’s empowerment. It is a prerequisite for building secure and resilient communities, driving both social and economic wellbeing for families and communities. Despite its potential, land tenure security for rural women is constantly affected by several factors including discriminatory social norms, unfavorable legal frameworks, limited participation in decision making processes and access to resources, among others. This coupled with limited awareness on women’s land rights affects sustainable investment on land by women in Africa.
It is against this backdrop that PELUM Association is hosting a webinar titled Beyond Land Access under the theme: Amplifying rural women’s voices as a pathway to land tenure security in Africa. This webinar will highlight experiences from rural women in Africa on effective strategies for strengthening land tenure security. The session will share community-driven initiatives that have successfully improved women’s land tenure security. It will additionally amplify women voices for land rights.
This webinar is a follow up on the previous webinar titled “securing women’ land rights for agroecology” that convened in 2024. It is also part of the activities for the PELUM Association Capacity Enhancement for Women Change Agents through Rights, Representation and Resources Access” Project funded within the framework of the Global Project “Women’s Empowerment for Resilient Rural Areas (WE4R)” by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany.
The Webinar is Scheduled 24th July 2025 from 2-5pm EAT (GMT+3hours)
Moderators: Medius Bihunirwa, Head of Programs PELUM Association and Moses Onen, Program Manager, Advocacy, PELUM Uganda
